Parish Hall Building Commission

Dear Parishioner,

On September 19, 2016, St. Gertrude parishioner’s reconvened once again to discuss the new addition to our church. The history and details of how we arrived at the decision presented in this letter are available on both the St. Gertrude web page and the St. Gertrude phone app under the new tab “Building Fund”.

Options presented at previous meetings by committee members and many individual parishioners included building onto the north, south, east and west of our church. After reviewing the pros and cons of each of these options, it was concluded that building an addition directly onto the church either eliminated the structural beauty of the church, was architecturally difficult, or would deliver disappointing results.

These conclusions led the building committee to a realization that the only plausible approach to adding restrooms and an additional gathering space to the church could only be accomplished by building a completely separate building connected to the church by a short hallway on the east side of the church. This new option would provide architectural design selections that would complement our church. This option would also require relocation of the grotto and removal of two or three large oak trees, which all the parishioners at the parish meeting embraced.

Furthermore, this new option changed the focus from just building new restrooms and a gathering place to building a new parish hall that would include new restrooms, a considerably larger gathering space and much, much more.

IT BEGINS WITH A VISION

The sketch below is ONLY an example to offer parishioners a visual of the proposed location of the new construction: the hallway connecting the church, the proposed parish hall, and a covered drop-off area for the church. This is NOT the actual construction design.

THIS ADDITION POSITIONS THE PARISHIONERS TO INCREASE SPIRITUAL GROWTH

THE VISION

The vision of a new parish hall offered a great opportunity to have one set of new restrooms to serve both the church and the new parish hall. This also initiated excitement realizing this opened a pathway to build a badly needed new kitchen. A small portion of the new hall could also be used as a small gathering place prior to Mass especially for special occasions. Space could also be available to build a multi-functional room to be used as a children’s room during Mass, a bridal room, or a meeting room.

The building committee and the architect will be conducting multiple meetings to determine the size, floor plan, design, and cost of the new parish hall.

Below is ONLY an example of a possible floor plan for the new parish hall that is under discussion.

A NEW PARISH HALL OFFERS EVEN MORE!

THIS VISION CONTINUES WITH THE OPPORTUNITY OF SPIRITURAL GROWTH

 IN OUR COMMUNITY

Everyone at the parish town hall enthusiastically accepted and became very excited about the new parish hall concept and immediately recognized the value a new parish hall would serve for the future growth and community of our parish. The convenient location and the size of the parish hall would attract more parishioners to attend and join in, plus opens the opportunity to host parish events that would build community among parishioners.

FROM A VISION TO REALITY

Can a St. Gertrude Parish Hall become a reality in one year?  The answer is yes!

The obvious concern is how much will this cost? Does the parish have the funds?

As the saying goes, we have good news and we have bad news. The good news is, we have the money to pay for our new parish building. The bad news is, it's still in our pockets.

On the serious side, there is a way to move from a vision to reality. It will take Sacrificial Stewardship.

Stewardship of treasure is our current tithing.

Sacrificial Stewardship of treasure is our additional giving over and above our regular tithing.

We all have needs and we all have wants. Giving up our wants to contribute to a worthy cause is our sacrificial giving. In the end, sacrifice brings joy.

If every member of the parish committed to sacrificial giving for only one year, the beginning of a new parish hall would become a reality beginning January 2018.

There are obviously many factors that will determine the cost of a new parish hall. During the parish town hall meeting it was discussed that a good size for the hall would be approximately 6500 sq. ft. For comparison, the present school hall is approximately 5000 sq. ft.

The following chart shows the approximate cost of a 6500 sq. ft. parish hall. This chart also shows the current balance and commitment of available funds.

ESTIMATED Parish Hall Cost

$1,600,000

St. Gertrude Building Fund

~$650,000

Present Parishioner (7) Commitments

$207,250

     Total Current Funds Available

$857,250

ESTIMATED Remaining Parishioner Commitments Needed

$742,750

The average total commitment needed from each of the 375 active family members is $1,980 which is equivalent to about $5.42 a day. What could you and your family sacrifice daily in order to save $5.42 every day to put aside for your commitment?

There are families that could not survive their basic needs if they gave the average dollars stated above. There are also many families capable of giving much more than this average.

This is a display version; An updated version is kept under the dedicated Goal Chart page.
